Alik Barbarian
Student in Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Hello, I’m Alik. I usually like writing my name in French, which would be Alique. I’m a student living in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I was born and raised in a city called Aleppo, Syria. I had to move to Yerevan, Armenia with my family when I was only fourteen years old, due to the war in Syria. Before coming to Toronto, Canada I had to stay in Beirut, Lebanon for four months. Along the way I transferred to six different high schools. I am now a scholar in a Catholic high school called Senator O'Connor for my senior year. I know how to speak four languages. English is my third language and has always been my favorite because it opens up opportunities for people to communicate with each other and learn about different cultures. Likewise, English is my favorite subject in school. Along my journey I tried my best to improve my English, by constantly watching TV shows, movies and reading bulks of books. My love and passion for poetry grew as well. Throughout all, The Mortal Instruments book series became my preferable choice. The areas that I need improvement in English are punctuation and vocabulary, and supposedly my strengths are grammar and creative writing. Moreover, my least favorite subject in school is computer science. Some of the extracurricular activities that enhanced my high school years were tennis and joining clubs, such as year book and green team. Furthermore, one of my specialties is volunteering; I joined a leadership program and helped the new comers to Canada for an entire summer. I also put my time and effort in organizing sales for donated uniforms and much more. One of my goals that I am working on to achieve in the near future, is to get enrolled to Ryerson University. I would either major in Business Marketing and see where my carrier takes me or choose Tourism and Hospitality and get my masters in event planning afterwards in order to become capable of starting my own small business and organize people's dream wedding. My inspiration for wanting to become a wedding planner comes from Lebanese people and most importantly, the two main Lebanese fashion designers Elie Saab's and Zuhair Murad's yearly glamours and magnificence bridal haute couture.
