Alison Waller

I teach English as a foreign language; currently in Brighton, previously in Italy, Colombia and Libya.

I'm a qualified teacher with seven years experience in the classroom. My teaching qualifications include an MA in English Language Teaching from the University of Sussex and the Cambridge CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults).

I work at two language schools in Brighton & Hove on a sessional basis, where I teach general English and exam preparation classes. I also offer private lessons. I can provide:

Speaking activities and conversation practice designed to improve fluency.

Personalised help with academic English and/or preparation for IELTS, FCE, CAE or other examinations. This includes exam skills, grammar & vocabulary review and mock tests - all up to date materials are provided.

Assistance with writing CVs, covering letters and job applications as well as mock interviews - before becoming a teacher I worked in recruitment and edited hundreds of CVs!

Proofreading of written documents & correction of errors in spelling, punctuation, grammar, style and register.

In-depth assistance with academic writing: planning & structuring, referencing and using quotations, language for writing in an academic style. This can be in preparation for, or working from your own degree assignments and can include editing and corrections where necessary.

When I'm not teaching I love to travel and take photos. I'm interested in languages: I can speak some Italian and a little Spanish. At home, I spend time cooking and baking, sewing, and crocheting. I love beaches, islands and blue skies.

If you're looking for someone to help you with English, email me to arrange a free, no obligation meeting where we can talk about your needs.
