Alison Joy

Alison Joy is an award-winning Brooklyn-based producer and writer of nonfiction stories.
As a development executive and producer, she spent a decade at Oscar-winning production companies including Alex Gibney's Jigsaw Productions, The Documentary Group, and Story Syndicate developing projects for HBO, Netflix, Showtime, CNN, Nat Geo, Hulu and many more. Highlights include collaborating with Samin Nosrat to adapt her bestselling book "Salt Fat Acid Heat" into a hit Netflix series, and working with Gizmodo journalist Jennings Brown to adapt his podcast "The Gateway: Teal Swan" into what became the four-part verite docu-series "The Deep End" on Freeform and Hulu.
In 2022, Alison turned to writing and producing full time. She was a Writer, Producer, and EP on the narrative nonfiction podcast "Svetlana! Svetlana!" for iHeartRadio, which was named a Best Podcast of 2023 by Vulture, featured in The Hollywood Reporter, and #1 on the Apple Podcast documentary charts. Other credits include “Light Darkness Light” (Co-Producer, VICE Films, premiere at Sheffield DocFest), the short films “My Wild” (Director/Producer, REI Co-Op Studios) and “The Spiritual Exercises” (NYTimes Op-Docs). Most recently, she was a story producer on a three-part series for Amazon premiering in 2025. She is currently story producing a forthcoming four-part series for ID/Max.
Alison continues to freelance and consult for a variety of production companies and filmmakers while producing her own slate of independent projects. Her story interests include complicated women, exuberant history, and inventive films that lean into genre and break rules.
Alison is a casual cyclist, a competent ceramicist, a chaotic baker, and a fantastic cook. She lives in Brooklyn with her comedian husband and their cat Adelaide.
