Alissar Abboud
Teacher in Doha, Qatar
My name is Alissar Abboud. I have been teaching for 6 years now. I am a high school Chemistry and Biology teacher. I have been the Student Life Coordinator at my school for the past two years now. I recently completed my Guidance and Career Studies Part 1 in the summer. I am in the course as I found that I was naturally doing a lot of the job through my Student Life position and would like to have the tools to be able to properly help students.
I have been internationally teaching since I graduated. I attended TORF at Queen’s during teacher’s college and knew I would love teaching abroad ever since. I first started at a Canadian school in the Caribbean for two years and then moved to another Canadian school in Doha, Qatar and I was going into my 5th year here.
I have lived the expat life for most of my life. I was born in Ottawa but grew up in Saudi Arabia, so I feel a kind of connection with the students here as they have a very similar background to me and I feel like I can relate to their struggles. I really enjoy being in this part of the world as it allows me to travel to so many different countries I wouldn’t have visited otherwise. During my free time, I love being outdoors by the water, the weather is pretty decent most of the time here so we get to be outdoors a lot.
I am really looking forward to meeting all of you and learning from you all, I have read some of the other bios and am very excited to get to know everyone in the course!
