It is a rare occasion for a person my age, a recent high school graduate, to know what they want to do for the rest of their life. Over the past year, I have been asked the same question: "What are you going to do after high school?" It is then that I respond with, "I want to be a journalist."

Journalism has been a passion of mine since the first day of my freshman year of high school when I walked into my newspaper class. It was there that I discovered my niche. As an incredibly non-athletic person, I felt like I had a place that I belonged for the first time.

I have spent the last four years thinking about what I want to cover as a photojournalist. Do I want to travel the world with magazines like National Geographic? Do I want to cover the hard-hitting stories with newspapers like the New York Times? Or should I take a stab at filming for news stations like CNN?

Honestly, I don't know.

In my senior year, I attended a Bernie Sanders rally. I think it was there that my passion for politics really set in. Right now, I think that's where I want to take my future career.

Over the next four years at the University of Missouri, my area of work may change, but there is one thing that will always stay constant: my passion and love for the news and the act of reporting it.
