Ali Toyin Smart

Hello, I’m Ali. I’m an attorney living in Nigeria . I am a fan of technology, entrepreneurship, and writing. I’m also interested in innovation and web development.

Ali holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from University of Ilorin. He attended the Nigerian Law School, and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2018. He is a seasoned writer with over 250 publications on both print and online media. He has also published a number of research papers in peer reviewed journals across Nigeria. His opinions on topical issues have been featured in major newspapers in Nigeria, such as Punch Newspapers and Tribune. He has won over 17 intellectual Awards, including a tuition scholarship at Nottingham Trent University, UK. He was the Winner (Legal Practitioner Category) of the Ibrahim Babangida National Essay Prize for Professionals in 2019.

Ali has facilitated several virtual and onsite lectures across different platforms. In Dec. 2019, he was a Guest Lecturer at American Institute for Economic Research's Bastiat Society (Nigerian Chapter) where he facilitated lecture on Practical Business Law in Free Trade Zone. He is the founder of Smart Leadership School where young people are mentored on leadership, sustainable development and public policy.

Ali is a former 2020 fellow at BAF's Media Justice Fellowship Programme. He was nominated as a mentor for YALI's Emerging Leaders Program (Online Cohort 14). He is formerly Advocacy Lead at Question Quest (a UK based policy think tank). He is the Director of Technical Resource at Privacy Hub Africa.

Ali is also a social entrepreneur committed to helping SMEs grow their potentials. He is the Founder & Lead Consultant at Prime Fort Solutions Limited; a digital company which is into branding and human capacity development. Ali was Chief Judge of Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi Spelling Competition for Kwara State Schools in 2020. He was also a Judge for Olabisi Onabanjo University's Essay Competition in 2021.

Ali has spoken at over 30 platforms as a guest speaker. He is currently a freelance consultant to several organisations, HNIs and startups. He consults on Tech Law, Intellectual Property Law, Policy Advisory, Digital Rights, Media Strategy and some other emerging areas.
