Aliya Hamida
International Relations Student and Social Worker in Special Region of Yogyakarta, Indonesia
Aliya is an International Relations student in the University of Technology, Yogyakarta. Aliya is passionate about understanding the complexities of foreign aid, including its motives, effectiveness, and allocation.
As the Vice Chairman of the International Relations Student Association, Aliya has developed strong leadership and teamwork skills in organizing academic and non-academic events for fellow students.
Aliya gained valuable experience in project management, data analysis, and communication while interning with The National Team for the Acceleration of Poverty Reduction, where she wrote research-based articles on foreign aid effectiveness and related topics.
Having been actively involved in social work since junior high school, Aliya founded an islamic education-concern organization for Muslim students in her school. In two years, she successfully held motivational seminars and promoting safe skirt-climbing activities for Muslim women, collaborating with the climbing club in the Faculty of Biology at Gadjah Mada University.
Currently, Aliya is the Administration Manager of a coordination institution for Islamic informal education that controls more than 100 institutions in 100 mosques in Mlati District in Sleman. The institution works directly and continuously with the education division of diniyah and Islamic boarding schools within the Ministry of Religion of Sleman Regency. During the Covid-19 pandemic, Aliya assisted with official government funds to provide facilitation for safety, successfully bringing 67 mosques-based institutions to receive funding.
In addition, Aliya contributes deeply to one of the 100 institutions in Mranggen Tegal village, where she teaches and develops an education curriculum for over 40 Muslim children. She organizes various interesting events, such as competitions, storytelling, and games.
As a mentor, Aliya encourages other young people to do social work and builds a team of 16 youths whom she accompanies in carrying out joint storytelling activities and other Islamic activities. She ensures that everyone gets appreciation for their work and motivates them to give their best through awarding event.
Currently, Aliya contributes to Rumpun Nurani, NGO concerns in promoting mental health for youth, parents, and the elderly.
