Allan Sparkes is one of only 5 Australians in the past 40 years who have been awarded the Cross of Valour, Australia’s highest bravery decoration, Australia’s highest civilian award and the civilian equivalent of the Victoria Cross for Australia. Allan, along with Australia's living Victoria Cross and Cross of Valour recipients, is also one of only 10 Australians to be awarded the Queens Diamond Jubilee Medal.
Allan is an active mental health and suicide prevention advocate. He volunteers much of his time to help fellow Australians overcome their mental health and suicidal issues through his work with beyondblue, Soldier On, Suicide Prevention Australia, the NSW Mental Health Commission and the NSW Police Force. His lived experience of PTSD and his story of recovery offer real hope to those who have had their health impacted so greatly with this insidious illness.
Allan is also a renowned keynote speaker who has inspired corporate audiences in excess of 1500 delegates with his life story. He has the ability to transform his audiences and take them on a journey and develop a belief in themselves and their future. His real life examples of leadership in extreme situations provide challenging and thought provoking models to help develop skills for both current and future leaders.
