I've been working in the software industry for longer than I care to admit, doing everything from compiler design to running startups. I'm a prolific writer (Dr. Dobb's Journal, JavaWorld, SD Times, 9 books...)
At present, I'm working with a couple startups (one as CEO, one as acting CTO), but still do occasional consulting work, mostly surrounding how to get a functional Agile culture and process (i.e. not SCRUM) into your organization. I present regularly at various conferences, most recently, Sofware Architect (http://software-architect.co.uk/), DevWeek (http://devweek.com/), and SDD (http://sddconf.com).
In school, I majored in both computer science and medieval history. It's remarkable how much the latter applies to the former.
I also play the piano (http://allenholub.com).
I live in Berkeley, CA.
