Allen Elster studied neuroscience and chemistry at Duke University. Making the dean’s list his sophomore year, he graduated with a bachelor of science. Subsequently, Allen Elster enrolled into the medical program at Wake Forest University. There, he received multiple academic honors for coursework in newborn pediatrics, nuclear medicine, ICU medicine, healthcare for underserved populations, among others. He was also the recipient of the Rachel and Isadore Meschan Award. Within four years, he received his Doctor of Medicine.
To gain hands-on experience, he relocated to South Carolina to begin an internal medicine internship at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine’s Greenville Hospital System. Dr. Elster provided patient care for a year and finished the program with two Silver Star Awards. Thereafter, he spent a stint as a radiology resident before being accepted into an Internal Medicine residency program at East Tennessee State University. Through the Quillen College of Medicine, Allen Elster cares for approximately 20 patients per day, reviews blood work and xrays, and manages patients in the hospital. Once a week, he spends time working with patients diagnosed with chronic medical conditions.
