Allen Lewis

My name is Allen Lewis. I am a student at University Of Washington Bothell. I am a Biology and Health Studies major. My interests and hobbies include music, singing, technology and science. My goal after college is to be a biomedical scientist. I have a passion for understanding how diseases are caused and how they affect the body. I also, want to know what treatments and vaccines can be developed for diseases. My goal as a biomedical scientist is to develop vaccines and treatments for diseases and to conduct research on diseases. During my time at UW Bothell, I’ve developed the skills required to be a biomedical scientist by taking classes like Microbiology, Principles Of Health Research, Special Topics In Neuroscience and Anatomy and Physiology. These classes provided me with knowledge on the human body, how to write a research grant, how to develop a clinical drug and knowledge on diseases. While at UW Bothell, I was able to conduct my own research with professors. One of the research opportunities that prepared me for being a biomedical scientist was working as a research assistant on a study that looked at how stress, quality of life and cognition affects HIV patients. During this collaborative study, I conducted interviews, surveys and gathered qualitative and quantitative data to help us understand how the factors stress, quality of life and cognition affect people with HIV. This study prepared as a biomedical scientist because I developed experience on how to conduct a study and how to collect data and developed knowledge on the disease. All of this information will be valuable for my career path because I will need to know how diseases are caused, how to conduct clinical research and what to look for when it comes to developing vaccines and treatments.I plan to achieve my goal of being a biomedical scientist by attending graduate school. Once I finish graduate school, I hope to gain all the essential skills necessary to become a biomedical scientist.
