Allie Markowitz
Student in Georgia
Hey, my name is Allie Markowitz. I am an integral part of my family’s ”Lucky 13”. The number 13 is normally surrounded by negative connotations of misfortune. However, my family sees this number as a truly positive thing. It represents me and my 12 cousins as a whole. Being the youngest cousin, I received the name of “the bookend”. My oldest cousin and I practically hold our family together, like bookends. I enjoy being a part of a large family because it allows me to fall back on a strong support system. I have always been very family-oriented as my three older brothers and I grew up extremely close. Moving hundreds of miles away from New York for college was a very difficult choice because I had to say goodbye to my number one support system. Luckily, we have had no trouble staying connected due to our tight-knit bond. My brothers have now moved out, but once a week we come together for a home-cooked meal. We share laughs and eat good food without the distraction of our phones. I look forward to family dinner every week and I can’t wait to continue this tradition when I get back home.
