Allison Wilhelm

Boston, MA

I'm a speaker, blogger, and panelist focusing on social issues in nerd culture. I've been both a nerd and a feminist since I was 15; in college I was on the exective boards of both the feminist student organizations and the anime club. Wanting to bring attention to the issue of sexism in geek media and cultre, I presented my first panel at Anime Boston 2012. Since then I've expanded my topics to include issues pertaining to race, sexuality, cosplay, and representation. I try to keep things fun and interesting with videos and pictures, and I make a point of engaging the audience in a discussion toward the end to discuss their opinions and experiences.

Previous presentations include:

"Gender and Anime Culture: After Dark" - Anime Boston 2014

"Women in Comics" (moderator) - Coast City Comic-Con 2013

Cosplay and Nerd Culture - October 31, 2013 at Eastern Connecticut State College

"Social Politics of Cosplay" at ConnectiCon 2013

"Feminist Perspectives: Ouran High School Host Club" and "Gender & Anime Culture" - Anime Boston 2013

"Gender & Nerd Culture" - Anime Boston 2012, ConnectiCon 2012, and NerdNite Boston in January 2013
