Alonso Gonzalez is a Government Relations and Public Administration professional who worked with the San Diego City Council for nearly a decade before joining the Port of San Diego.
Alonso managed the Land Use/Housing and Rules/Intergovernmental subcommittees and served southern San Diego’s Eighth District as a Council Representative. He was promoted to Deputy Chief of Staff to the Council President in 2006 and doubled as the analyst on coastal matters for Coastal Commissioner Ben Hueso. Alonso was responsible for Coastal Act research and ex-parte communications and was appointed as an alternate member of the commission.
Alonso moved to San Francisco in 2009 to manage government reform efforts with the Bay Area Council, the region’s leading business advocacy group. He also volunteered with Gavin Newsom’s campaign before returning to San Diego this summer. Alonso serves on the board of the League of Conservation Voters and regularly runs in 5 & 10k fundraisers.
