Alphonso Smith

Ever since Alphonso Smith was growing up as a child in Pahokee, Florida, it was obvious that football has been a major part of his life. As a quarterback and defensive back for the Pahokee High School Blue Devils, he was not only a critical member of a championship football team, but he was also runner-up for High School Player of the Year in Florida. He also earned All-State honors when he led the school to the Class 2B state championship game in 2003.

After he graduated high school, Alphonso Smith then moved on to Wake Forest University in North Carolina from 2004-2008, where he was a starter for prominent coach Jim Grobe. There, he set a school record for interceptions and ended up tied for the most in the nation. To this day, he still holds the career record for interceptions in the Atlantic Coast Conference. While playing for the Demon Deacons, he was chosen a first-team All-ACC player and he was also a second-team All-American with Walter Camp. He also graduated from Wake Forest with a Bachelor's Degree in History in 2008.

In 2009, Alphonso Smith was drafted into the NFL by the Denver Broncos. That team actually traded up to draft him more quickly. After four years in the NFL, where he played for the Broncos and the Detroit Lions, Alphonso was a sideline reporter and broadcaster with IMG in Winston-Salem, North Carolina for some time. Following that, he was then hired as an assistant coach for Carver High in Winston Salem before he decided to return to Pahokee to be the head coach for his alma mater, where his first year featured an 8-2 regular season record and a district title.
