I have the incredible good fortune of designing and building fun and amazing things on WordPress.com at Automattic.
I live in Denver, Colorado, where the sun shines more than 300 days out of the year, which is good because I'm originally from San Diego. After attending art school for graphic design in the late 90s, I found myself caught up in the whirlwind of the web agency world during the dot-com boom. Primarily a designer and Flash developer at the beginning, I freelanced for a few years and during the slow bits honed my front-end development skills as well as learned how to do formerly weird things like build PHP from source and get Flash to read XML generated by PHP.
Once the economy recovered, I jumped head-first into Flex and ActionScript, always in the service of great UX. When I eventually found myself unexpectedly editing someone else's ASP.NET code, I abruptly changed course and spent time doing financial UI and data visualization work for brokerage houses, investment bankers and media outlets.
During this time I quietly started a side project called Bedpost which I architected, built and designed simultaneously in the browser as a tool for recording and visualizing your sex life. Quickly gaining users, I was interviewed by and featured in The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, The Village Voice, Playboy.com, LaRepubblica.it, Valleywag, Infosthetics and more.
Father of three kids, I make weird music and have been blogging for over 15 years.
