Alvin Barnes from Jackson, Mississippi
Resilient. Unyielding. Indomitable.
I’m Alvin Barnes, raised in Jackson, Mississippi.
Sometimes I go by Alvin Barnes of Jackson, Mississippi because where I’m from matters. My work, my voice, and my vision are all shaped by the people, history, and spirit of the place I call home. From community organizing to personal reflection, everything I share is grounded in that identity. Jackson taught me how to endure. Christ taught me why.
I’ve walked through injustice. I’ve lived through loss. I’ve faced false accusations and seasons of silence. But I’ve also encountered grace, redemption, and the unwavering hand of God pulling me forward when everything around me told me to give up.
I live by these words:
All must die, but not without hope.
All must serve, for we belong to Christ.
What dies in Christ shall live forever.
And I hold fast to the truth of Philippians 3:8:“For His sake I have accepted the loss of all things and consider them so much rubbish, that I may gain Christ.”
I am resilient because suffering didn’t steal my spirit.
I am unyielding because I won’t let the world shape what God has called me to do.
I am indomitable because the Holy Spirit in me cannot be bound.
I’m not here to impress you, I’m here to serve you.
To speak hope to the hopeless.
To remind the forgotten that they are still seen by God.
And to tell the truth, even when it costs me something.
Let’s keep walking—faithfully, forward, and free.
With peace and Love,
Alvin Barnes from Jackson, Mississippi
