Alyssa Lee
Teacher, Mother, and Student in Vancouver
My name is Alyssa Lee, and I currently teach a Montessori grade 4/5/6 class in Vancouver. This is my 8th year teaching, and I have been in multiple Montessori classes (k-6) for most of those years. Having three grades in a choice program, I get students with a wide range of abilities. I chose to take Special Education courses to understand my students' strengths and stretches better and to be able to provide more individualized and meaningful ways for students to learn.
As a classroom teacher, I believe that my job is to create an environment for all students to feel comfortable and welcomed. They all bring in different abilities, strengths, and stretches, and it's important to acknowledge their unique strengths and stretches to develop and support the best ways for each student to learn and thrive.
Outside of my classroom, I live with my husband and a very sassy 3-year-old girl. Becoming a mom has changed my perspectives in teaching and helped me see my students and their families through more understanding and compassionate eyes. My family loves travelling and being outdoors - we enjoy biking, hiking, skiing, camping, etc.
