A Southeast Asian born tan but without the Ray-Bans, Alyssa graduated with a B.A. (Hons) in Communication Studies, Theatre and Film Studies from McMaster University. Through volunteering, she found herself in the nonprofit world, a sector that has helped her thrive personally and professionally. As a PR professional, she integrates digital and non-digital communications to highlight the work of organizations.

In her journey to build her career toolkit, Alyssa has written for CBC Hamilton, co-founded the Hamilton Media Guild, stage managed for an LGBTQ dance theatre show, and more. She also chaired Hamilton HIVE, the city's leading young professional network.

Alyssa continues to explore teaching and facilitating opportunities. Her university research work on principles of good teaching was published in the Canadian Journal of Learning and Technologyin 2013. She also teaches nonprofit marketing and communications part-time at Mohawk College Continuing Education.

At 24 years old, Alyssa was honoured with the 2014 YWCA Hamilton Woman of Distinction Award in the Public Affairs categoryand the2015 McMaster Hamilton Community Impact Award. She is a 2017 Fellow in the award-winning GTHA CivicAction DiverseCity leadership program.
