Hi my name is Alyssa!
I am new to the blogging world (so be patient, I will learn as I go).
I have decided to begin blogging as a way of telling my family and friends about the upcoming experiences I will have as I backpack solo in South America for 2 months. (Also they will be a cool way of remembering my journey)
For those of you who do not know me well (or not at all), I am 21 year old Australian who comes from a crazy family of seven. My family have always be up for adventures and have traveled many parts of Australia including the outback in our trusty Land Cruiser and 4WD camper trailer. The sense of adventure that my parents have shown me and ongoing interaction with exchange students living in our home as I grew up has made me curious about the world outside our hometown.
As I have grown that curiosity has developed into a passion for all things travel - but not the type of travel that many do!... Instead of just going to a place for 1 night so I can tick it off my list, I prefer being immersed in the local culture and learning about local way of life. I would much rather eat at the local restaurant than eat something I can find at home.
So because of this desire to get a better understanding of a country and it's people I have not been to many countries, but I do feel as though I have a rich connection to these places. My travel history up to date has consisted of countless outback and Australia driving holidays with the family which I hold fondly in my memory, 4 month gap year volunteering in Fiji building hurricane proof housing - this fueled my curiosity for different cultures, and 3 weeks study tour with university in Hong Kong and Taiwan where I got my first taste for the exquisite eastern cultures.
One of my favorite travel quotes is:
"We travel not to escape life, but for life not to escape us"
The quote has a deep meaning to me, I feel at my fullest and most alive when I am traveling, seeing new places, building new friendships and learning about different ways of life, the world is a very wide place, I can only hope to get a little taste of what it has to offer.
I hope you enjoy my blogs and they give you an insight into my inquisitive mind.
