Hello! My name is Alyssa Melchiorre, I am from Pickering Ontario, studying at the University of Guelph. I am in my third year of my undergraduate bachelor’s degree, studying Biological Science. I have a passion for nature, wildlife, and animals. On my spare time I enjoy spending time outside hiking and traveling. I am interested in traveling more in the future and hoping to live in different parts of the world. Travel has inspired me to want to expand my horizon and appreciate the variety of nature and species in different areas of the world. I also enjoy reading, listening to music, and exercising. Something that most people do not know about me is that I am an Italian Citizen.

Biology is a scientific field of particular interest to me; I enjoy studying different species and how they interact with one another. I enjoy learning about how things work; studying how human and animal physiology works is something I find fascinating and is what I enjoy most about biology. A scientist who has been an inspiration to me is Jane Goodall. Jane Goodall is known for her studies on the social and family interactions of wild chimpanzees. She is a particular inspiration to me due to her extensive work on conservation and animal welfare issues. Her research on chimpanzees was able to inspire change in the way humans view and value the lives of animals. Her ability and passion to advocate for animal rights has been a big inspiration to me as a female studying biology.

My current career goal is to study veterinary medicine and open my own practice. Becoming a veterinarian is something that I have been interested in since I was young, I enjoy being around animals and I feel passionately about animal rights. Recently I have been drawn towards wildlife veterinary practice after having the chance to take classes on wildlife rehabilitation this school year. Learning about different species of animals and how to care for sick, injured and orphaned wildlife has been fascinating and inspiring to me. I have enjoyed learning about the many biological variations between wildlife species and the different ways to care for these species. I am hoping to study abroad in the future and learn more about the biology of wildlife and ecosystems in different parts of the world.
