Alyssa Parada

event and wedding coordinator in Lakeside, California

I am in the process of starting my own Event and Wedding planning company, AP Events. I have been planning events for friends and family for 7 years.

I am currently attending the University of Phoenix for my Bachelor's in Business Management with a concentration in entrepreneurship. I then plan on getting my masters from USD. I am also taking Event and Wedding Planning courses with QC Event Career School.

I am a Diegueno Native American from the Barona Band of Mission Indians. I am very involved in my culture. I grew up dancing at the powwows and still dance today.

In 2010 I was crowned Barona Powwow Princess. Being a Powwow Princess is a great honor, and also a great responsibility. I traveled to other tribe's powwows as our ambassador. I also went to many Barona Sponsored Events and participated with the Lakeside Chamber of Commerce. I love Lakeside, and will spend the rest of my life giving back to this beautiful community in which I call home.

In 2013 I founded a non-profit organization called NEW - Native Empowered Women. In this program, I hold workshops that help empower and engage young women in their future. We discuss body image, career options, worldly issues, and we learn about our culture. We come together in a safe place where we can talk and feel comfortable sharing our lives and issues with other women.

I volunteer as a catechist, teaching catechism, at my parish, Saint Kateri Tekakwitha Parish, and am the Director of Youth Ministry.

Some of my goals in life are to help other Native Americans and empower young women to lead change.
