Amber Thomason is a senior at Texas State University-San Marcos studying public relations with a minor in psychology. She will graduate May 2011, and she is pursuing a career as a PR/marketing/communications associate in which she is able to utilize her talents in writing, event planning, social media, media outreach and graphic/web design.
Currently, Amber holds the position of communications intern at Meals on Wheels and More in Austin. There she researches and contributes to the non-profit’s social media efforts. She is contributing to the blog by brainstorming, researching and writing blog articles.
During the spring 2010 semester, she interned with Central Texas Medical Center Hospice Care and helped plan its annual concert fundraiser, Hats Off For Hospice. CTMC’s Hats Off For Hospice 2010, featuring Cory Morrow, brought in 600 guests in and raised nearly $50,000 for the Dream a Dream program. While at CTMC Hospice Care, Amber also assisted with two other events, a Valentine’s Day appreciation luncheon and Camp HeartSong. Camp HeartSong is a camp for children who have recently lost a loved one.
She is currently an active member of the Student Event Planners Association. During her membership, Amber volunteered at several events including Sights and Sounds of San Marcos, Austin Bridal Extravaganza, Austin Radiological Association’s Employee Appreciation event, TEDx Austin conference and St. Michaels annual gala. She has also been involved in Social Media Club and PRSSA.
