Amil Cook
Amil is currently a Doctoral Student at Indiana University of Pennsylvania's Communication Media and Instructional Technology program. Already a Master's level and highly respected educator, Amil has presented nationally at universities including the SXSWedu Conference. Amil was the Keynote Speaker at the Pennsylvania Black Conference On Higher Education's Student Leadership Development Institute in 2012.
Amil helps leads #HipHopEd, a collective of Hip-Hop generation of educators, scholars and youth advocates from around the globe. Through Amil's technical skills and ability to create and utilize audio and visual techniques and social media to engage the youth and communities, #HipHopEd was awarded the 2013 Social Media Use Award by Words, Beats and Life, Inc., in Washington D.C.
Amil has taught Africana Studies at the University of Pittsburgh's Titusville campus, served as a Clinical Supervisor and classroom teacher in the juvenile justice system and in Pittsburgh Public Schools. Amil is currently researching and designing curriculum on the specifics of the media's impact on African American young men.
Amil serves as the Educational Director for 1Hood Media Acadmey, a community based media literacy program, designed to train young African-American males to be critical media consumers and creators. Amil guides curriculum development, educational pedagogy, academic research, program and student assessments and teaches students foundations of graphic design, marketing and promotion.
Amil was recently appointed Director of Digital Media at Applications2U, a Pittsburgh based IT Consulting and Cloud Hosting provider. Amil is responsible establishing design direction, as well as managing brand guidelines. Amil is leveraging his digital media talents and insights into marketing strategy development and implementation.
