Amin Reda
RF Team Lead in Oakland, California
Thanks for visiting my page!
My name is Amin. I'm an RF Team Lead with UTVATE in San Francisco, California.
My career began in 2011 when I graduated from Georgia Tech with a PhD in Electrical Engineering. During my time there, I co-authored a book on RFID with my advisor Dr. Manos Tentzeris. In a grad internship with Toyota, I did millimeter-wave research on automotive Radars, which resulted in the publication of 6 patents.
After being so focused in the RF grad program obtaining my PhD, I was interested in trying something different. That's when I accepted a systems engineering position with Northrop Grumman. I was at Northrop for 3 years working on interesting projects in Atlanta, Northern Virginia, and Brooklyn. The time at Northrop helped me realize and appreciate my specialty in RF & Antenna Engineering. I also came to the decision that I wanted to be part of a smaller (much smaller) company.
That's when the startup company Maja Systems in silicon valley reached out looking for an antenna engineer. I loved working in a small team environment, designing antenna modules, writing business proposals, and even building their website.
I then joined a new team at Energous, doing wireless charging. The transition quickly revealed to me that the impact of what I'm working on matters to me, a lot. Since I personally did not believe in the product I was building, I had to quit.
Telewave, a small company that builds outdoor antennas for Public Safety applications, was exactly the kind of valuable impact I wanted to contribute to. There, I built a small team and we developed a sensor product for LMR base stations that reports RF power data to a cloud. I led the product from development to production.
I joined UTVATE in Jan 2020; a startup that has the vision of enabling every person to access the information they need in order to live a prosperous life. While no one can deny the great impact of this vision, for me it is more personal as many people in my home country Lebanon do not have this privilege. I am a believer that people should be unburdened from having the means to access information. In Jan 2023, I took on a leadership role with UTVATE and currently I am leading an amazing team of engineers building phased arrays.
Outside of work, I'm a father of two and I value wellness & health. For fun, I co-owned a specialty coffee shop, Condesa Coffee. I'm also a certified boxing trainer and a yoga instructor.
