dr. Arūnas Molis

Dr. Arunas Molis assumed duties as Head of Strategic analysis and research division at the NATO Energy Security Centre of Excellence (ENSEC COE) in January 2013, after national Energy Security Center under the LT MFA was fully transformed into international military organization.
Prior to his current appointment Dr. Molis served as academic at the Baltic Defence College where he specialized in international relations, geopolitics and energy security. He follows his academic career since 2003 then he started lecturing European security at Vilnius University, Institute of International relations and political science (VU IIRPS). He holds BA in political science from VU IIRPS, MA in European Studies from Hochschule Bremen (University of applied sciences), and PhD in political sciences from VU IIRPS. From 2010 he works as associated professor at Vytautas Magnus University (in Kaunas), Faculty of Political Science and Diplomacy, same position he holds at Lithuanian Military Academy. Since 2008 he holds visiting or other appointments at Tartu University, the Baltic Defence College, Euroacademia (all in Estonia), Masaryk University, Bologna University (Italy), Hochschule Bremen (Germany), Vilnius University, delivered lectures at summer semmesters, schools and academies organized by Kyungpook National University (South Korea), Humboldt University (Germany), Masaryk University (Czech Rep.), various think-tanks and NGO’s. Dr. Molis lectures subjects related to international and European security, role of energy in international relations, energy resources management, European integration and others.
From 2002-2005 he worked at the Defence policy and planning division at the Ministry of Defence of Lithuania. From 2005-2007 he was heading Eastern countries monitoring division at the Center for Strategic Studies (think-tank created by LT MFA, MOD and State Security Department). In 2007 he got involved (as intern) with the EU Institute for Security Studies, in 2009-2010 he cooperated with the Institute for European Politics (Germany) and International Center for Defence Studies (Estonia). Dr. Molis has published articles on European security and defence, also energy security, NATO, Russia, Belarus. He has spoken at numerous institutions, defence colleges, universities and think-tanks. He is regularly consulting Lithuanian government on the issues related to the external dimension of the common EU energy policy, NATO-EU cooperation, etc.
