As a writer, I am a painter. I want to create a vivid scene, layering the colors, balancing the hues, placing a swift brushstroke here and a steady-handed line there to make the picture ever more clear. I see my writing first in my mind- its characters, its emotions, its highways and homes. The words people say form pictures as well. How they deliver their lines changes the picture. A slightly different word, or a slightly different color, will change how my reader views the piece. I am never satisfied and always see something else that could change. But when I am in love with my work and understand each stroke, that is when it is near finished.
