Southampton, United Kingdom
Popular Music Promotion student, with experience in talent booking, digital marketing and event management, alongside interest and knowledge in youth and cultural studies.
From a young age, alongside science, I have had a keen interest in music & social work.
After receiving good grades in science at GCSE I realised that it wasn't my passion. I went on to achieve a Media Diploma and Communication & Culture A level. During this time I focused my assignments on the themes of domestic violence and subcultures, aided by music.
In 2011, I started attendance at Southampton Solent University studying Popular Music Promotion. During this time key themes I have studied include feminism, DIY Punk, the impact of iPod technology, music theory, marketing and events management. I founded Lumberyack Promotions as part of a project, and have also managed events for Criminal Records. I have volunteered on behalf of Oxfam at festivals such as Boardmasters and am currently a member of the SMILEfest marketing team.
Other than the music, my interest in youth and cultural studies has never been abandoned. The subject of my final year dissertation is concerned with how individuals, predominantly youth, fluidly shift between subcultures, with focus on costume role play and skateboarding cultures. Outside of my studies, I have had an active position within the Girlguiding movement. In the nine years volunteering for this organisation I have discovered strengths, overcome obstacles and make a tremendous difference to the lives of young girls, by providing emotional and educational support as well as fun activities, which is rewarding to say the least.
My dream career would be one of which embraced all my knowledge and interest in music marketing and youth work.
