Ana Maria Currea has over 15 years of experience in communications, knowledge management, M&E , relationship building, advocacy and program management. Currently, she is the Communications and Knowledge Specialist of the GEF Small Grants Programme at the United Nations Development Programme.

Before joining UNDP, she was a consultant for a public relations firm in New York where she developed communications strategies, placed stories in national and international media. During her studies at Columbia University she focused on environmental policy and climate change and developed a study outlining New York City's carbon markets strategy for the New York City Mayor's Office of Long Term Planning and Sustainability. Ms. Currea also worked for the Department of Cultural Affairs of the City of New York, where she designed a new allocation strategy for the Department’s $400 million annual grant-making budget including the design of all the required reporting and monitoring documents.

Prior to her studies, Ana Maria worked as the Cultural Attaché for the Colombian Embassy to the United States where she was responsible for the bilateral cooperation agenda in environment, education and culture. In that position, Ms. Currea designed and executed promotional marketing campaigns to increase public awareness about Colombia and forged relationships with the government, private sector, multilaterals, not-for-profit institutions and the media.

In Colombia, Ana Maria worked as the Communications Director at Colfuturo, a Colombian not-for profit that promotes international education.Ana Maria holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA), a Bachelor’s degree in Communications from the Universidad Javeriana in Bogota Colombia.
