Hey there! I'm Anaïs and I've mainly grown up in the Caribbean, hopping from island to island such as Jamaica, St.Lucia, Barbados, and Trinidad throughout my life. I love the outdoors and spending time in nature and connecting to the earth. I love to do yoga and meditate and be active doing sports such as CrossFit and surfing. The ocean is my favourite place on earth and I could spend hours and hours on the beach or out in the water.
I am currently in my second year studying Creative Industries at X University in Toronto which is such a drastic change coming from an island. My module A is in the music industry and my module B is in the art and business of film. I’ve only been in Toronto for 3 months and there are still a lot of things to get used to and explore and I am excited to be starting this new journey in my life.
One of my biggest ambitions in life is to travel the world and I’ve always found the concept of working on a yacht very appealing. Once I finish my degree in Toronto I want to get certified to work on a yacht and travel around the Caribbean, the Mediterranean, and many other places. The fact that you get to travel and work at the same time sounds amazing, and travelling also exposes you to so many different places and cultures which I would love to learn about and immerse myself in.
You might be asking yourself, Anaïs, if you want to work on a yacht, why are you studying Creative Industries (CRI)? Well, I chose the program because I’m a creative person and I also like business and find it very useful. CRI combined the two and I found it very interesting. However, I found out about yachting after starting my degree and immediately fell in love with the idea of it.
I have been sailing and surfing since I was little and have in-depth knowledge about boats and the ocean. I have worked multiple summers at surfing camps as well as art camps, and have done multiple sails around Trinidad and Tobago. Moving around a lot has also taught me to be open and accepting of different cultures, ethnicities, traditions and much more and in doing so it has made me a well rounded and culturally diverse individual. I want to continue to do this to grow as a person and expand my knowledge and I believe yachting is an option that would allow me to do that.
