As an artist, producer and cultural strategist, Anasa Troutman has made it her life's work to create a culture of love and human connection through the use of art and creativity. Currently the Managing Director of India Arie's Soulbird Worldwide and founder and Creative Director of Lion & Butterfly, Anasa imagines and manifests innovative programs and projects designed to create a "Culture Shift" in community and commercial spaces.
Anasa's commitment to the power of art to create a more loving world propels her work to intensify the strategic impact of creative practice on social and political realities.
Working locally, regionally, nationally and internationally, she has provided strategic and creative support in many important cultural, political and social justice spaces. Anasa designed and executed the National Learning Exchange for Alternate ROOTS 35th Anniversary celebration; served as Consulting Producer for The Young People's Project's post Hurricane Katrina organizing effort, The Finding Our Folk Tour; transitioned Generational Alliance leadership into the use of cultural strategy as a community organizing tactic; built and managed the local organizing strategy for the National Hip Hop Political Convention; created artistic programming as a Next Generation Producer for the National Black Arts Festival and designed and produced the 75th anniversary celebration for the historic Highlander Research and Education Center.
Sought after for her innovative thinking on the transformative role or art, culture and creativity for social change, Anasa has also worked with Institute for Policy Studies, Art & Democracy Project, Dennis Kucinich for President, Progressive Majority, Sony Music/Giant Step Records, The Campaign for America's Future, The League of Young Voters and the Heinz Endowments just to name a few. She also serves or has served as a member of the Board of Directors for Alternate ROOTS, SmartMeme, Common Fire, The Gathering For Justice, Hip Hop Caucus, National Hip Hop Political Convention and Forward Together.
Anasa embodies her strong belief in creativity as a transformative practice and engages art making as a pathway to her own healing and spiritual grounding. While she experiments with many forms of creativity, her deepest love is writing. She creates stories, songs and essays that reflect her unique point of view, her commitment to loving kindness and her thirst for beauty and adventure.
