Ana W. Barraza


Ana was born in Guatemala, but considers herself a native Rhode Islander. She earned her BA in 1994 in English with a concentration in African/African American Literature from the University of Rhode Island. Ana had a 10 year career in the public and private sectors which included roles as a Case Manager for those with substance abuse and mental health issues and as a Brokerage Assistant at Morgan Stanley. It was during her time at Morgan Stanley when she determined to pursue her passion for Education. She returned to the University of Rhode Island and in 2004 she received a Masters degree in College Student Personnel. Ana has spent the last 10 years as an University Administrator; teaching, developing programs, reforming practices, and most importantly mentoring students. After a 3 year stint in the Dallas, TX area, Ana moved back to RI and into a role in the Non Profit Education Reform sector. Currently Ana is the Education Coordinator at Community Action Partnership of Providence.

Ana has also served as a General Member on the URI Alumni Executive Board, the RI Young Professionals, and is currently on the Board of the Rhode Island chapter of Latinos Dollars for Scholars, she is also the Corresponding Secretary of the Theta Psi Omega, Providence city graduate chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
