Andrej Grajn
Surgeon in London, United Kingdom
I’m Andrej Grajn, an organ procurement surgeon by profession, but at heart, I’m someone endlessly curious about how the world works—biologically, historically, and culturally. I was born in the former Yugoslavia, a place of remarkable diversity, and that early exposure to multiple cultures and perspectives left a lasting imprint on me. I grew up with maps, encyclopedias, and a fascination for the systems—both natural and manmade—that shape human life.
I studied medicine in Slovenia and earned my degree in 2005. From the beginning, I gravitated toward surgery—not just for its technical challenge, but for its immediacy, its humanity. I found my calling in organ procurement. It’s intense, often unpredictable, but profoundly meaningful. Each procedure is a bridge between life and death, and that weight is never lost on me.
I've worked across several countries, learning to adapt, lead, and mentor along the way. I care deeply about training the next generation of surgeons—not just in technique, but in mindset. Outside of medicine, I find joy in classical literature, geopolitics, and the quiet discipline of mathematics. I also collect and study industrial brands from old Yugoslavia—my way of preserving history and identity.
I don’t claim to have all the answers, but I do strive to ask the right questions—about life, about legacy, and about the impact we leave behind.
