Private Hockey Coaching in Tauranga, New Zealand

I coach hockey the way I wish more kids got coached, through real game situations, not endless repetition drills. I'm currently completing a Bachelor of Counselling in Tauranga, and I bring that training directly into how I work with young athletes: reading each kid's confidence, attention, and comfort level, and shaping sessions around them rather than a fixed script.

I've competed in hockey and rowing at a high level myself, and coached teams since my own teens. What I've noticed, on both sides of the whistle, is how many kids love the idea of a sport but get lost, overwhelmed, or quietly switched off by coaching that only rewards the kids who are already confident.

What's different about these sessions

  • Game-situational coaching where kids learn to read and react in real play, not just repeat drills.
  • Personalised to how your child engages, including neurodivergent-friendly approaches.
  • Built on a "growth over comparison" mindset. Confidence and enjoyment come first, performance follows
  • Led by someone with real coaching experience and formal training in human development, not just one or the other
