Andrew Biraj is a photojournalist based in USA. He holds an advanced diploma in photography fromPathshala, the South Asian Institute Media Academy and a BA in photography fromthe University of Bolton, UK.

Biraj exhibited his long term project BONDED STITCHES & STRUGGLE; TESTIMONY OFLIFE IN BANGLADESH’S GARMENT INDUSTRY, on the one year anniversaryof the collapse of Rana Plaza, which have been visited by more than 10,000visitors in Bangladesh.The exhibition took place from April 22- May 1, 2014,simultaneously in three different venues including an open-air show near thecollapsed building site in Savar, Bangladesh.

His works has been featured, exhibited andpublished worldwide, including in Visa Pourl’Image in Perpignan, the Angkor Photo Festival in Cambodia, Yangon PhotoFestival in Myanmar, the International Photography Biennial of the IslamicWorld in Iran, Noorderlicht Photo Festival in the Netherlands, the KiyosatoMuseum of Photographic Arts in Japan, the Church of Santa Maria della Pietà inVenice, the National Art Gallery in Malaysia and Drik Gallery in Bangladesh.

Biraj was a participant in the 2008 World Press Photo Joop Swart Masterclass. Hehas won several awards including: Best Portfolio in The2013 Atlanta Photojournalism Seminar Contest; HonorableMention in The 2013 National Geographic Photo Contest; thirdprize inThe 2011 World Press Photo Award; secondprize in The 2013 Pictures of the Year (POYi); 1stprize in 2008 and 3rd third prize in 2010 in The NationalPress Photographers Association of America’s Best of Photojournalism awards;a Gold award (in 2013) a Silver award (in 2011) and a Bronze (in 2007) in The ChinaInternational Press Photo Contest; the 2010Award of Excellence in Feature Photography, from the Society ofPublishers in Asia; and, the 2010 South Asian Journalists Association Award for an outstanding photographabout South Asia.
