Andrew Burden is an innovative, energetic teacher with 15 years classroom experience with all grade levels and subjects, specializing in middle school grades 6-8. He has worked with middle school students for 22 years as a youth leader, teacher, and cabin counselor. Currently, he serves as social studies teacher at Shelterwood Academy, a Christian therapeutic boarding school in Independence, MO.
A leader among his peers in technology integration, Andrew seeks out effective strategies to reach all learners. Andrew is also an accomplished video editor, specializing in creating high production value from all types of footage.
The secret to Andrew's ageless charm is his twice-a-week time with the coolest middle school kids on the planet. A few minutes browsing his iTunes library reveals eclectic tastes from Justin Bieber to James Taylor, and PSY to Sousa. Conversant in the spectrum of Angry Birds to Downton Abbey, Andrew knows a Kony from a Brony and can speak the language of youth without sounding insincere.
A fractured heel bone and radius on Thanksgiving 2012 laid him up for a while, but Andrew insists on fancying himself a runner. Less than 11 months later, he complete the full 26.2 at the Kansas City Marathon, then did it again exactly a year later in Columbus, OH. From now on, though, Andrew is happy to stick to 13.1 races (three of which he did in 2014 in crazy costumes).
