Andrew Firlik

Andrew Firlik (@andrewfirlik) is a venture capital investor and entrepreneur. He has significant experience in company building, technology development, and neurosurgery. He is currently a co-founder and general partner of JAZZ Venture Partners, a Silicon Valley-based venture capital firm that invests in early stage technology companies.

Andrew has led numerous venture capital investments and has helped many early stage companies become successful market leaders. Previously, he was a general partner at Flare Capital Partners and a principal at Canaan Partners. He was a founder (and invented the core technology) of Northstar Neuroscience, which went public in 2006 (NASDAQ: NSTR) and was subsequently acquired by St. Jude Medical (NYSE: STJ). He also served as chairman of IntElect Medical, which was acquired by Boston Scientific (NYSE: BSX).

Andrew's representative investments and board seats include BridgePoint Medical (acquired by Boston Scientific, NYSE: BSX), ClearFlow, Explorys (acquired by IBM, NYSE: IBM), Functional Neuromodulation, Halo Neuroscience, Akili Interactive, Two Bit Circus, Level EX, Pear Therapeutics, Eyefluence (acquired by Google, NASDAQ: GOOGL), i1 Biometrics, SetPoint Medical, Spine Wave, Aira.IO, Vertos Medical, and Visiogen (acquired by Abbott, NYSE: ABT).

During more than a decade as a neurosurgeon, he published more than 50 medical articles, wrote chapters for several medical textbooks, and was co-editor of a book about cerebrovascular surgery. His scientific work has been presented at many international conferences and he holds numerous patents for his inventions. As a board certified neurosurgeon, he served as clinical assistant professor of neurosurgery at Yale University and the New York University School of Medicine. He has served on the Innovation Advisory Board of the Cleveland Clinic, the Cornell University Biomedical Engineering Advisory Council, and the Executive Board of the Yale University Center for Biomedical and Interventional Technology.

Andrew earned his M.D. from Cornell University Medical College and his M.B.A. from the University of Pittsburgh after studying biology at Cornell and Oxford University.
