Andrew Swan

Bowling Green, KY

I'm a Student Affairs Graduate Student at Western Kentucky University who will graduate in June of 2013 with my Master of Education in Student Affairs in Higher Ed and a Certification in International Student Services.

To put it succintly: I love the university environment and the unique challenge that is working with college students. I strive to be a life-long learner and someone who seeks formative experiences; working at a university makes it impossible for one to be static if they are to be successful. When I am working with students, I have to be honest, engaged, and at my best, because a college student is intelligent enough and empowered enough to recognize a false persona. And I would not want it any other way.

While my high input drives me to learn as much as possible about the university experience, I gravitate towards a few specific topics: the first-year experience and first-year intervention programming (i.e. college orientation and university experience courses); student leadership development; and advocacy for minority, LGBT, and first generation college students. I also strive to incorporate my love for technology into my professional life in intelligent and meaningful ways.
