Andreya Cherry

Student and Musician in Syracuse, New York

Andreya Cherry is an aspiring arts administrator committed to making the performing arts accessible to all, regardless of race, age, gender, or class. Growing up outside the vibrant city of Philadelphia, she often attended performances of the Philadelphia Orchestra, local jazz groups, and regional theater troupes, instilling a life-long love of the the performing arts. This passion later inspired her pursuit of both a Music Industry and Music History and Cultures Degree at Syracuse University while actively performing as a classical bassoonist and jazz saxophonist.

Andreya strongly believes that the performing arts serve a greater purpose than just a brief presentation. Music, drama, and dance rely on teamwork and communication, which forms a bond between participants and strengthens communities. She experienced this loving artistic community first hand through her involvement in a variety of organizations and ensembles ranging from orchestras to jazz ensembles to theater groups. Along with these communities comes the necessity of strong and compassionate leadership, a skill set Andreya has built as a Section Leader and Music Instructor in the University Marching Band and as producer of “McCartney Madness,” a student-initiated, student-ran day long music festival. Andreya believes everyone deserves access to the performing arts. She is a vocal advocate for arts education in the public school setting and believes private institutions have an obligation to support educational programming for their audiences. Fueled by her passion for music, Andreya believes the arts will continue to better the world day by day.
