I'm Andy Smith - tech investor by choice, geek by destiny.

A General Partner at Center Electric, LLC, I invest in early-stage companies building the Internet of Things (IoT). I co-wrote The Dragonfly Effect, an actionable guide to driving impact through customer insight and highly effective, measurable digital marketing. While working with companies to create Dragonfly Effects of their own, I advised and supported technical ventures with guidance in customer strategy, marketing and technology.

Earlier in my career I served as an executive leading teams at Dolby Labs, BIGWORDS, LiquidWit, Intel, Analysis Group, Polaroid, Integral Inc. and PriceWaterhouseCoopers.

I am a Venture Mentor in Steve Blank's Lean Launchpad class at the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley and I guest lecture at Stanford’s Graduate School of Business, speaking on social technology, growth hacking, and brand building, with a focus on applying technology to address real problems.

I contribute to Fast Company, First Round Review, and GOOD Magazine, where I explore ideas and businesses that embrace and integrate both meaning and innovation. I've also appeared on radio and TV, spoken at events including South by Southwest, The 140 Characters Conference, Social Media Breakfast, World 50, Marketing Week, TechCoire and Interbrand.

I'm on the boards of Ziploop, Accompani, Publet, CafeGive Social, 140 Proof, LIF Brands, Avanoo, and One Family One Meal.

Born in Connecticut, I grew up in Princeton, but have called California home since college. I've studied in The Parthenon, lived in a former South African prison, and shared a local pub with a regiment of Windsor Castle’s Scots Guards.

A few New Year's ago I established “The No Cookie Diet” - six years later, I'm still on it. I was once bumped from an international flight that tragically crashed and it made me learn to accept travel mishaps (and most everything else) with equanimity.

I earned an MBA at UCLA’s Anderson School and hold an Economics degree from Pomona College. I live with my Dragonfly Effect co-author, Jennifer Aaker in Lafayette, California with our two little dudes and a princess. I'm on Twitter entirely too much: @kabbenbock
