Andy Sommer

I have fifteen years in-house and PR Agency experience across a range of industries including technology, corporate, energy/mining, consumer/lifestyle, not for profit, financial services and property.

I have experience of working both in house and agency side looking after leading clients including Adobe, Google, Intel, Acer, ExxonMobil, Western Union, Berkeley Homes, National Trust, Harrods Estates, George Wimpey, Dubai Sports City, Teradata, YouTube and Open Handset Alliance.

Throughout my career, I’ve developed solid technical writing skills. I’ve also always built successful and strong relationships with key media and strategic partnerships with partner organisations and other external stakeholders.

In my previous role at esure, I ran the communications and PR discipline with responsibilities for retail PR, stakeholder relations, Government relations, internal communications, corporate website, CSR, spokesperson profiling and thought leadership.

With PPR, I built on my knowledge of the business side of PR, managing the capacity and forecasts as well as driving new business taking the state office from a struggling part of the overall business to the leading revenue driver, achieving and exceeding forecast month on month over the last 12 months.

At Adobe, as the first communication professional in the role in Australia and New Zealand, I established the communications processes and social media function so I’m comfortable building a team and function from scratch as well as managing agencies and activities across a region.

I worked with different teams to ensure a consistent communications approach is adopted but also to develop relationships with teams such as sales, operations and talent to uncover stories that previously were left hidden. As a result I was able to establish and grow both a customer reference and spokesperson profiling program.

I developed the social media program in the region and expanded this to Asia Pacific. I also created collateral for both the PR and marketing functions for internal and external use.

I’ve also managed significant crisis and issues management initiatives such as the Apple/Adobe battle over Flash, the launch of Streetview in ANZ as well as YouTube, Community Engagement and CSG for ExxonMobil, Consumer Protection and Fraud for Western Union and pricing issues for Adobe in Australia.
