To the Lanesborough Community:

I am standing to be a governor because I have a great affinity for Lanesborough and its ethos. I like and admire the people (staff and parents!) and believe I can contribute strongly to the school’s continued success.

First of all, my wife Cindy and I have three boys, all of whom have been through Lanesborough. Ben, 18, has just left the RGS and is travelling before attending Yale next year. Zac, 15, is boarding at Tonbridge School. John is 7 (Year 2). We have been Lanesborough parents for 13 years already (only five left😊).

I understand how the LPA works, having previously been a class rep and involved across the school, and will be a Lanesborough parent for all three years of the governor term.

Our boys have different interests and learning styles, so I have been seen a wide range of school activities and teaching methods at Lanesborough and elsewhere. Ben is an avid debater and film director, Zac is an all-round sportsman, and John has a musical aptitude which evaded his brothers. I have had exposure to both the RGS and Tonbridge, giving me insight into secondary school selection. These diverse experiences will stand me in good stead as a governor.

Second, my CV: I studied Engineering at Cambridge, worked in varied roles in London and California, and have been a serial entrepreneur for the past 15 years. I currently run a self-storage business and act as a non-exec for Cindy’s software company. We have held conferences to educate parents, teachers and adults about ADHD, raised funds to build a school in Kenya and actively supported the Duchenne Children’s Trust charity. I coached a team at Guildford Rugby Club for 7 years and became Chairman of the Minis section.

Third, my approach to this role: I will be present and visible in many aspects of school life. It’s important that governors are approachable and available to listen to the opinions of other parents, in confidence if necessary. I’ll be there both to support current initiatives and to help the school navigate a changing educational environment.

I’m at a point in my life where I can dedicate a significant amount of time to being a governor. I will take this role seriously and make use of my experience as a parent, an employer and an active member of the community.
