I have always been interested in running. I don't know why. Maybe it's because it helped me feel skinny or I just don't have good enough coordination for other sports. Who knows. I've been running my whole life. Well, I guess anyone could say that. But I've always had a passion for it, to do my best. I've also been told a lot that I have long legs… and arms… so just limbs in general. I guess it makes sense why my track coach decided to train me for hurdles my junior year in high school. “Your 400 meter time is good and you've got lanky legs” my track coach told me when he volunteered me for the 300m hurdles. I realized I could take advantage of this opportunity and maybe win myself a state title. So I took him up on his offer. Until about a week later when I busted it over a hurdle in practice leaving me out for the rest of the season. Totally just stellar. After hearing about my little incident, the literary coach approached me about this obscure opportunity. Ok, first off, what the heck is literary? To be honest, I still don't know. Anyways, long story short all I had to do was memorize a little piece and present it in front of a few judges. That should be pretty easy and this would be really good for my resumé. So I took her up on her offer. Boy was I in over my head… Our region competition was in a week and this piece I had to memorize was 10 MINUTES LONG. Which doesn't seem long, but memorizing that thing word for word really took a toll on me. Anyways, I went to region and competed for three judges and it wasn't til after I presented that my literary coach told me that none of my competition showed up. Convenient right? So I continued on to state where I competed against around 9 other competitors. I performed in a boot, yet again, to sway the judges in my favor through this pity party on my foot. About an hour later, I'm hopping up and down on one leg as they announce that I was first in the state. Flash forward and I'm writing about this very situation for my UGA supplemental essay.
