Angela Bankhead

Angela Bankhead is a new media designer, filmmaker and producer living and working in New York City. Ms. Bankhead recently graduated with her MFA in Design & Technology from Parsons The New School for Design, with emphasis in New Media Design, Digital Strategies and Film Distribution. Her thesis project entitled, HerStory is MyStory: Biographical Narratives of Black Women Filmmakers is a narrative documentary that critically questions the lack of cultural literacy in the film & media industry surrounding creative black women. Through interviews with up-and-coming artists, debut directors, and experienced filmmakers, HerStory illuminates the unique challenges and adversity black women face in this field. Featuring a diverse cast of luminaries, such as Michelle Materre, Tanya Hamilton, and groundbreaking director Julie Dash, the documentary aims to reshape our thoughts on the current media landscape, acting as a catalyst towards a future more inclusive of diverse talents. HerStory seeks to strengthen connections between women in the filmmaking profession by creating a new historical record – contextualizing and highlighting the diversity that has existed, and does exist, in the world of cinema.
