Angela Alexander Townsend, October 2016

We are pleased to announce a new project at the KYWCRH.org Open Knowledge Initiative!

Angela Alexander Townsend is writing a series of posts about her experiences at the University of Kentucky in the early 1960s. (For a general overview of this history of UK, see this webpage developed by Weston Thompson and Terry Birdwhistell.) Mrs. Townsend was one of only a few black women who lived in dorms on campus. She lived in Boyd Hall, and her roommate (also black) went home every weekend. The only other black women students at UK that she knew about were two transfer students from a junior college who roomed together in Holmes Hall.

Her story is compelling, and the series is rolling out in the following order:

All’s Well That Ends Well” or Is It?
