About Animal General
Puppy Play Group, a league of pet owners that meets twice a week to socialize their puppies, is just one of many proactive ideas generated by Animal General, an acclaimed veterinary clinic and animal hospital based in New York City. Since its debut in 1984, Animal General has been dedicated to quality pet care that is unparalleled by their competition. Pleased to offer comprehensive services that include a 24-hour nursing care program and visiting hours, Animal General is lauded by the NYC community for its ability to produce wagging tails and smiles all around.
In 1997, Animal General was awarded Employer of the Year by NYSARC, Inc.—an organization dedicated to helping adults with disabilities—for its continued support. Two years later, the veterinary clinic received the National Practice of Excellence Award from Veterinary Economics magazine, which annually recognizes only the top 12 veterinary practices in the nation.
Animal General is wholly committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all animals. The veterinary clinic launched a sister hospital, The Center for Avian and Exotic Medicine, to provide medical care for a broader range of animals that includes fish, birds, rodents, rabbits, turtles, snakes, and more. And, last year, staff members helped bring a serial cat killer to justice by testifying in court.
Located on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, Animal General ensures pet owners adequate time with the doctor by limiting the number of appointments scheduled each day. Additionally, emergency-trained veterinarians are always on call, and the medical staff respectfully gives priority to pets that require urgent attention.
