Student and Software Engineer in United States

My name is Alston Muilenburg, a student at UGA.

Years ago, I started learning how to create digital models and scenes to replicate and expand upon creative ideas and projects. However just by copying what I saw evoked no sense of awe in any artwork I created. There is a bland solitude in creating a piece with no purpose or story. One art I had worked on for a few months was a 1600s Caribbean ship docked at a port; yet no amount of time could fill what was missing from the piece. Instead, I attempted to understand the process of the creation of the ship. How the boards were warped to create the hall and keep water out of the ship-- how the ropes were tangled throughout the deck and inside of the ship to create a moving Vesile. The people who used the ship and the lives they lived. I attempted to build an understanding of the story of the object-- what it's been through to get to where it is, how the people who built it used the resources and knowledge of their time to create something greater than them. And by following along with their process, I was able to create a story with my art.

That thereafter has been a critical part of who I am as someone who creates. I love working on software that delves into the needs of each individual user; art that explores the stories surrounding it; and music that evokes emotions. For me, it's not just the skills required for the programs I use to create art, but the story that goes into portraying a piece.

I am someone who loves learning how to create new ideas with Blender, a 3D modelling software, and any programming language that can support my methods. There is nothing more captivating than learning new ideas and methods that never even crossed your mind. This has led me spending a majority of my free time creating projects and exploring new ideas.
