Anna Sideris

Opera Singer in London, United Kingdom

I am a young lyric coloratura soprano living in London, studying on the Opera Course at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. This term I have the unique challenge of creating the role of May in a new opera by Julian Philips and Stephen Plaice: 'The Tale of Januarie', with performances on Feb 27 & Mar 3. Then in June I will perform Polinessa in 'Radamisto' by Handel.

On leaving Guildhall, I have two exciting Mozart projects: Donna Elvira in Opera Loki's production of 'Don Giovanni' - performances in France and UK (Aug-Oct), and 2nd soprano soloist in Mass in C minor in Bath Abbey.

Last year I performed the roles of Parasha in 'Mavra' by Stravinsky, Brigitta in 'Iolanta' by Tchaikovsky and covered Female Chorus in 'The Rape of Lucretia' by Britten for Guildhall Opera School. I also covered the role of Mrs Coyle in 'Owen Wingrave' for British Youth Opera. In the 2015 - 2016 seasons I was an Alvarez Young Artist for Garsington Opera, singing the role of Resi in 'Intermezzo' by Strauss and First Fairy in 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' by Mendelssohn, which was a collaboration with the Royal Shakespeare Company.

The Royal Academy of Music, where I obtained my Masters, introduced me to song repertoire through coach Audrey Hyland, and I made my debut at the Wigmore Hall in the final of the Maureen Lehane Vocal Awards and won 3rd prize. I work for the charity Live Music Now! with Jocelyn Freeman, who bring classical music to a wider audience, and have taken part in education projects from Glyndebourne and Garsington Opera. The Royal Academy is also where I met eminent scholar and pianist Roy Howat, with whom I have collaborated in a number of recitals for the Verlaine Rimbaud Foundation at Kings Place, London. I have performed in masterclasses with eminent singers such as Renee Fleming and Ann Murray. Future recitals include programmes in Oxford, Pisa and Bonn.

I relish the linguistic challenge of singing! I speak French, Italian, Greek and English, and am learning German and Russian. I also enjoy contemporary music and have performed 'Improvisation sur Mallarmé' (Boulez) at the Aldeburgh Festival, 2015.

In my spare time I like to dance at Pineapple Dance Studios, watch movies and go to the theatre.
