My name is Anna Nguyen and I am a first-year pharmaceuticals science major, and though my interest in science has driven me to pursue the pre-pharmacy track, I dedicate the development and structure of my character to music.

Music has tremendously influenced my life more than I could ever imagine. When I was 6 years old, my mother forced me to take piano lessons, but an hour before my first lesson, I locked myself in the bathroom. Unfortunately, she unlocked the door with a master key I never knew we had. However, after a few weeks of lessons, I began to actually enjoy the lessons.

All of these years of musical training led to major breakthroughs in high school. I actually was admitted into the high school marching band in my 8th grade year, and upon entering my freshman year of high school, I auditioned for the officer position of drum major (or simply put, "band captain"), and to my amazement, I got the position and held onto it for all four years of high school. I felt extremely grateful for all of the opportunities I had gained through my musical experience and I wanted to share it with others, so in my sophomore year, I started my own instrument drive.

I had noticed the amount of students that wanted to join band, but could not afford the equipment in order to do so. To me, any experience with music should not be missed, so I started an instrument drive to collect used instruments from alumni and retired members of the community to donate to the high school.

Music has taught me what it feels like to find something you are passionate about and not to give up on it, and has helped me become the leader I am today.
