Anna Maria Mulè is an educator serving the New York City Department of Education. She has nearly two decades of experience in the educational system both as an educator and as an administrator. Since her first role as a teacher with Newtown High School in 1998, she has grown alongside her students, finding new and fascinating topics to discuss, learn, and teach. This is in no place more true than in her experience with ESL and ELL learners. She taught ESL to alternative learners at the Queens Adult Learning Center from 2002 to 2008, finding further inspiration to continue her career.
After earning her second master's, she served as a support specialist for ELL instructors for a time, aiding in methodology and curriculum. She used this experience to become an ELL Curriculum Specialist for the DOE in NY, serving as liaison to over 70 schools in the NYC area, as well as running workshops and serving on task forces.
She left this position for a more hands-on experience as principal of the then-struggling Cobble Hill School of American Studies. There, she reformed much of the school from the bottom up, finding ways to improve education both inside and outside of the classroom. Over the course of a decade, the school found ample improvement, and she left the school in 2019 to pursue a role with the DOE as a New Principal Support Coaching Fellow. She continues to serve today, finding new ways to provide to these educational administrators as a resource.
Anna Maria Mulè became the Principal of the Cobble Hill School of American Studies in Brooklyn, NY. During her time as the school's Principal, she made significant progress in improving the school's academic performance. Under her leadership, the school's graduation rate improved from 56% in 2011 to 72% in 2012, with a high of 89% in 2018. The school's attendance rate improved to 85%. In 2014, it was removed from the list of Schools in Need of Improvement list due to her Turnaround/Transformation initiative, improving their school culture.
